The Social Welfare Department is set to roll out a plan to tackle streetism.
The plan is expected to address the surge in streetism in major parts of the capital.
Greater Accra regional director of social welfare Felice Emefa Senyo gave the hint while speaking at the 21st anniversary of Porters Village in Accra.
She said “when the cases come before us we try to settle the cases amicably. And I’ll say that we also are proactive. When the cases like child maintenance come before us, we try as much as possible to get the parents to understand that together they brought that child forth, and together they will have to take care of the child.”
“When we are able to take care of the children, husbands are able to play their responsibilities as husbands, wives also know their responsibilities, that is the beginning of avoiding domestic violence.”
She added, “so, from the onset we give counseling and we try as much as possible to reconcile families when the issues come to our attention.”
