After two years without continental football, Kumasi Asante Kotoko will be making a return to the Confederations of African Football (CAF) champions League on the hues of finishing champions of last season’s Ghana Premier League.
While the gaffer, Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum who championed the glorious course seem to be out of the picture, life has to continue as the Porcupines get set to trade tackles in Africa.
The Ghana Premier League champions will pit their might against Burkinabe Premier League champions Rail Club de Kadiogo.
Despite, participating in the CAF winners’ Cup, the Ouagadougou giants will be making their second appearance at the continent’s premier interclub championship.
Unlike Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Rail Club de Kadiogo are yet to win a continental trophy. The closest they went was in 1978 and 1980 when they got eliminated by Horoya AC and TP Mazembe respectively in the semifinals of the CAF Winners’ cup.
The Falcons are four time champions of the domestic league in Burkina Faso and two time champions of Coupe du Faso.
The last time they played in the CAF champions League was in 2006, where they succumbed to a 1-2 aggregate score line against Algeria’s USM Alger in the Preliminary stage.
Rail Club de Kadiogo will welcome Kotoko at the Stade de Kadiogo between 9th and 11th September, 2022 before honoring the second leg between 16th and 18th September 2022 in Ghana.
