Parliament will today Thursday, November 10, 2022, begin the debate on the motion of censure filed by the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, for the removal of the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta.
The minority in Parliament is expected to move the motion later today in the House.
At least two-thirds of Parliament will have to vote in favour of the censure to have the Finance Minister removed.
This motion, if passed, will compel President Akufo-Addo to sack his Finance Minister.
Meanwhile, the leadership of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) has directed members of the Majority Caucus in Parliament to abstain from the scheduled vote of censure being sought by the Minority Caucus against Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta.
A statement issued and signed by the General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Kodua Frempong said the demand by the NDC Minority caucus to get the Finance Minister removed from office is ill-intended and aimed at derailing government’s efforts at resolving current socio-economic upheavals.
“By this directive, the leadership of the Majority Caucus especially the Whips are to ensure that no Member of the Majority Caucus partakes in this exercise by the Minority Group in Parliament,” the statement stressed.
