The Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Murtala Mohammed has denied referring to the Minister for Communication and Digitalization, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful as a practitioner of LGBTQ.
This comes on the back of the Chairman of the Committee on Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Mr. Anyimadu Antwi has presented the Committee report on the bill to the house for debate.
The debate resulted in a heated exchanges between the lawmakers in the House.
Religious leaders from both Christian and Muslim communities stormed the Parliament as the bill was being heard for the second time in the House.
Speaking on GH Today on GHOne TV, the lawmaker indicated that the statement he made was off record and could have been ignored if Honorable Alban Bagbin was chairing proceedings.
“We all do take jabs at each other and you saw the Deputy Majority Leader and Chief Whip taking jabs but as long as it was not made on record it is ignored. In fact if it was Honorable Bagbin he certainly will have ignored any alleged or purported statement.
“I never used the word practitioner, I never did and in fact I wasn’t even the only person from our side who were taking jabs, our mics were off. Ursula was said mua bo d3m we never took offence because she said it off mic which it means in twi as you guys are mad. She made that statement when Honorable Defeamekpor was challenging some of the things she said in her submission,” Mr. Murtala stated.
He continued: “What I said vividly you know we said a lot of things and you remember when the Speaker asked me to withdraw I asked the Speaker to tell me specifically which statement. The speaker could not tell me which statement because whatever statement any of us made it was made off the mic. So there was no statement in the first place.”
