#OccupyBoG demo: We won’t break the law in protesting against Addison – Minority

The Minority leader in Parliament, Cassiel Ato Forson has stated that they cannot be seen breaking the laws in protesting against the Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr. Ernest Addison and his deputies.

Minority’s planned demonstration against the Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr. Ernest Addison and his deputies to resign has met some resistance from the Ghana Police on the routes to use.

Commenting on the development the lead convener of Fix The Country movement, Oliver Barker-Vormawor has said democracy is not a spectator sport.

According to him, the game of democracy is not played with gentility.

“I swear if it was FixTheCountry with the kind of following and power the NDC has, we would have called our members to go to the BOG. And let the Government arrest us and let’s see.

“Listen, democracy isn’t a spectator sport. If you want to play gentle, tyranny will win always. They will use their courts and their judges. They will make you look unserious,” Mr. Barker-Vormawor stated.

However, after a meeting with the Greater Accra Police Command on Monday September 11, 2023, the two parties have agreed on a route and subsequently postponed the protest to October 3, 2023.

Addressing the media after the meeting Minority leader explained that the decision to reschedule the protest is to allow eligible voters the opportunity to register during the Limited Voter Registration Exercise.

“I think we should all be mindful of the fact that we have a country to put together. We should all be assured that we the NDC Minority we are saying the governor of the Central Bank of Ghana has indeed broken rules, we cannot also be the very ones breaking the laws.

“Our position is simple, we have seen the attempts by the Ghana Police to scuttle our protest. But today in spite of the back and forth we were able to agree on a new route. Now that the protest is going to happen we don’t want to give them additional opportunity for them to scuttle the protest,” Dr. Ato Forson stated.
