The Men’s National Football Team of Ghana, the Black Stars, will be taking on Niger in a bid to shore up their qualification odds in the upcoming 2025 African Cup of Nations after losing to Angola at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
The qualification fixture is scheduled to be played at the Stade Municipal de Berkane in Morocco at 16:00 GMT today due to CAF ruling Niger’s stadium as substandard.
The captain of the Black Stars, Thomas Partey, has ruled out any advantages from playing in Morocco but has situated hope in the team and its approach towards the game.
“I don’t think there is any advantage there. It all depends on how we approach the game. If we go with the approach to win, we go there to win because there are a lot of good players now and you can’t underrate anyone.
“I believe in all the players that come into the team—young and the quality that they have. I think all they need is our support and the support of every Ghanaian,” he said.
Manager of the Black Stars, Otto Addo, has also expressed hopes in his team, tipping them as the favorites and banking on his team to be victorious despite avoiding underestimating the Niger team.
“This game, we are surely the favorites, and I am very, very confident that we will win this game. But in football, anything can happen.
“We saw it last time against Angola, the way the game looked. I never thought we would lose this game, but in football now there is no weak opponent,” he said.
Ghana and Niger are seeking to rebound from their losses to Angola and Sudan, respectively, who thrashed them in last week’s qualifiers to secure the three points.
As it stands, the Black Stars lie third on the Group F table without a point and a goal to their detriment, just as Niger, who is at the bottom of the table.
