The Senior Staff Association-Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG) has declared a nationwide strike which is set to begin on September 16, 2024, citing the government’s inability to meet their demands.
This statement, signed by National Chairman George Ansong was released on September 13, 2024, and required all members to fully comply.
The association cited three main grievances that prompted the strike. The primary worry is the “failure of the government to pay the new rates of the Vehicle Maintenance and related allowances, even though an agreement has been reached.” In addition, the government has not “released our Tier Two deductions to our Fund Managers since January 2024.” Finally, they ask that the government “recalculate the interest on our Tier Two pension funds from 2010 to 2016.”
The document states that the government’s refusal to react to the association’s demands has made the strike unavoidable. Chairman Ansong stressed that ” it is hereby directed that all member campuses adhere to this directive strictly.”
