Former President John Mahama has announced that the next National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s government will divide the Aowin constituency into two if elected president in the upcoming December 7 elections.
This follows a request from the Aowin traditional council to decentralize local government and escalate local development.
Responding to the request during a recent community engagement at Enchi as part of his campaign tour of
the Western North Region, the NDC flag bearer admitted the district, with 181 polling stations is large and a split is necessary.
“The Aowin Constituency is too large. It has 181 polling stations.”
He asserted that as a new government is about to be elected, the constituency should be divided with the help of the population census which has already been done by President Akuffo Addo’s administration.
“As the new government is coming up, there will be a need for demarcation of districts. As population census is done, we will demarcate constituencies which have a large number of people.”
He further stated that this demarcation will occur when the NDC is voted into power. With the help of the Member of Parliament for Aowin Oscar Ofori Larbi.
“I have faith that this demarcation will happen whiles the NDC is in government with the help of Oscar.”
