The United States has congratulated President-elect John Dramani Mahama on his election victory, praising Ghana’s democratic process and commitment to transparency and fairness.

In a statement, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken commended the Electoral Commission, poll workers, civil society, and security forces for ensuring a peaceful and transparent process.

The U.S. also congratulated Vice President-elect Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang on becoming Ghana’s first female vice president. This historic achievement is a significant milestone in Ghana’s journey towards gender equality.

The U.S. and Ghana have a long-standing partnership, with cooperation in areas such as trade, education, and security. The U.S. has committed to working closely with President-elect Mahama to strengthen this partnership and carry their historic relationship into the future.

This commitment to cooperation is built on a foundation of mutual respect and trust.

The U.S. has praised Ghana’s democratic progress and its role as a stable and peaceful nation in the region.

As President-elect Mahama prepares to take office, the U.S. has expressed its enthusiasm for working together to address common challenges and opportunities.

This includes promoting economic growth, improving healthcare and education, and strengthening regional security.

The U.S. also acknowledged Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia for his gracious acceptance of the election results, and expressed condolences for the lives lost in isolated incidents of violence during the election period, urging a full investigation and accountability.

It stated, “The United States congratulates President-elect John Mahama on his successful election campaign, following the declaration of results by Ghana’s Electoral Commission. We extend further congratulations to Vice President-elect Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang on becoming Ghana’s first female vice president. The United States commends the Electoral Commission, its hundreds of thousands of poll workers, civil society, and the country’s security forces, who helped ensure a peaceful and transparent process. We also applaud Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia for his gracious acceptance of the results.”

“We are aware of reports of isolated incidents of violence and at least four confirmed deaths. The United States extends our condolences to the families of those killed and urges a full investigation and accountability. The United States is proud of our enduring partnership and friendship with the people and government of Ghana. We look forward to working closely with President-elect Mahama to carry our historic relationship into the future.”
