President John Dramani Mahama has instructed the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Emelia Arthur to collaborate with the Minister of Finance to facilitate the timely completion of the Anomabo Fisheries College in the Central Region.
The Anomabo Fisheries College was initiated by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government in 2011. However, the project was left unfinished after Mahama lost office. The college consists of lecture theatres, a principal’s bungalow, fish ponds, boreholes, and a water pumping station. The college is designed to accommodate 300 students.
In a statement made during his “Thank you tour” in the Central Region, Mahama emphasized the importance of finishing these projects for the benefit of the country’s development.
He revealed that he had instructed the Fisheries and Aquaculture Minister to take immediate action and collaborate with the finance minister to secure the necessary funding to complete phase one of a major ongoing project.
According to Mahama, phase one of the project is nearly completed, with only a few final touches needed, including chairs, tables, beds, and other essential materials, as well as some campus roads. He assured that once phase one is finished, focus will shift to the completion of phase two.
The former president also mentioned that the government would ensure the required funds are allocated to finish the project.
Mahama expressed optimism about the upcoming budget, noting that every government drafts a new budget, and the finance minister is set to present it to Parliament this March. The funds required to complete the project will be part of the new budget, he confirmed.
“We are committed to completing all stalled projects, regardless of whether they were initiated by the NPP or the NDC. I have directed the Fisheries Minister to take prompt action and work with the finance minister to secure the necessary funds to finalize phase one of the project. Once that is completed, we will move on to phase two.”
“We will ensure that the required funds are allocated to finish the project. The first phase is nearly complete, with only chairs, tables, beds, and other essential materials left, along with some campus roads. Thankfully, every government drafts a new budget, and the finance minister will present it to Parliament this March”.
