Abubakar Damba has also praised the support shown by Black Stars goalkeepers Lawrence Ati Zigi and Jojo Wollacot in helping Benjamin Asare transition seamlessly into the national team.
“I have to commend Ati Zigi and Jojo Wollacot for mentoring Benjamin Asare. He’s just starting out, and he needs their experience. They have been through the pressure of international football, and their guidance is crucial for Asare’s growth,” Damba said.
He emphasized that the positive energy from the experienced goalkeepers made it easier for Asare to confidently take the field. Damba noted that without their support, Asare might not have been able to perform with such assurance.
“I’m excited to see how Asare handles pressure in future games,” Damba added. “There are many more tough matches ahead, and that’s when we’ll really see how he handles difficult situations.”
While hopeful for Asare’s future performances, Damba also stressed that both Ati Zigi and Wollacot are capable goalkeepers who can perform on any given day. He pointed out that the focus should always be on the team rather than any individual player.
“It’s not about just one person. Ati Zigi and Wollacot can both perform well on any day, but it’s about Ghana as a whole. Each player must build their capacity to handle challenges and be ready when the opportunity arises.”
