From a humble beginning in a small farming community in Kwahu, Isaac Kwaku Obeng is gaining prominence as one of Ghana’s top political commentators with his ability to break down complex political issues into understandable terms for the average citizen.

After bagging another master’s degree in Public Relations with Marketing at UniMAC (formerly known as GIJ), Obeng’s journey is both inspiring and illustrative of the potential for personal growth and societal impact. This Masters’ comes at the back of an earlier MBA-Finance degree he had achieved.

Early Life and Background

Born into a modest family, Isaac started his career in selling ice water(‘penii d3i penii’), meat pie and letter kerosene, which was a common fuel source in many households.

This early experience not only instilled in him a strong work ethic but also provided him with insights into the everyday challenges faced by ordinary citizens.

Obeng’s leadership interest started way back in junior high school, where he served as the compound prefect.

He later became the dining hall prefect in senior secondary school.

During his tertiary education, his passion for transforming the student front grew, leading to his election as the Student Representative Council (SRC) President in his second year of a four-year program.

This experience broadened his knowledge of student activism, as he attended several union congresses, including those of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), Ghana Union of Professional Students (GUPS), Private Universities Students’ Association of Ghana (PUSAG), University Students’ Association of Ghana (USAG), the Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG), just to mention but few.

Obeng served on several committees, further honing his leadership and advocacy skills. During his first master’s degree, he was once again elected as the Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana (GRASAG) President for his campus.

Transition to Political Commentary

As he navigated through life, Isaac recognized the importance of education and self-improvement. He pursued further studies, which equipped him with the knowledge necessary to engage in political discourse.

His transition from selling kerosene to becoming a political commentator was marked by his growing interest in current affairs and governance issues.

He began participating in local discussions on radio and television for the New Patriotic Party and also engaging with community members about their concerns and advocating for their rights.

Through consistent efforts, Isaac built a reputation as a knowledgeable and relatable commentator.

He became known for his ability to break down complex political issues into understandable terms for the average citizen.

Impact on Society

Throughout these leadership positions, he left both tangible and intangible legacies that he is remembered for.

His commitment to education and the progress of his colleagues made him a strong advocate for free Senior High School education during the 2008, 2012, and 2016 election years, contributing to the return of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to governance.

He has held several corporate positions, ranging from Investment Banker, Insurance Manager, Finance Manager, HR Manager, and Marketing-Budget Monitoring/Media Manager, among others, following his early working experience as a factory hand in the early 2000s.

Currently, Isaac is married and a businessman. He is a consultant for various organisations. He also serve as a life coach and a motivational speaker, using his experience to inspire and guide others.

In conclusion, Isaac Obeng’s transformation from a kerosene seller to a top National political commentator illustrates the power of God’s Grace, perseverance, education, and advocacy in effecting change within society.

Indeed, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” — Jeremiah 29:11.
