TOR, Youth Development Ministry, and Tourism Authority Explore Sports Tourism Partnership

The Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) is exploring a strategic partnership with the Ministry of Youth Development and the Ghana Tourism Authority to boost sports tourism, enhance youth empowerment, and reposition TOR as a socially responsible corporate leader.

The collaboration was proposed during a courtesy call on TOR’s Managing Director, Dr. Yusif Suleman, by a high-powered delegation ahead of Ghana’s upcoming international football friendlies in London this May.

The delegation included, Betty Krosbi Mensah, Technical Advisor to the Minister for Sports and Recreation; Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey (Abeiku Santana), Deputy CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority; Okai Mintah, Chairman of the National Youth Wing-NDC; and Selorm Amevor, Special Advisor to the Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment.

Led by Abeiku Santana, the group congratulated Dr. Suleman on TOR’s recent turnaround and record-breaking performance under his leadership. The visit was aimed at aligning TOR’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts with Ghana’s national football brand to drive visibility, rebranding, and investment.

The proposal centered on TOR supporting the Black Stars’ upcoming participation in the Unity Cup with Jamaica, Nigeria, and Trinidad & Tobago from May 28 to 31, in London as part of its CSR agenda. The delegation emphasized that such a move would not only project TOR’s brand globally but also demonstrate its commitment to youth development and national progress.

TOR’s MD, Dr Yusif Suleman welcomed the proposal and assured the team of TOR’s support for the noble cause. He expressed delight that TOR was chosen for this collaboration, seeing it as a move in the right direction that fits into the organization’s agenda of rebranding and attracting investors.

Also present at the meeting was Godwin Mahama Ayaba, TOR’s Corporate Communications Officer – External Affairs, who extended appreciation to the delegation and affirmed management’s support for the initiative.

This collaboration is expected to be formalized in the coming weeks, potentially positioning TOR as a lead sponsor and supporter of Ghana’s sports diplomacy efforts.
