The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Young Entrepreneurs (GCYE), Mr. Sherif Ghali, has been appointed to the Governing Board of the National Youth Authority (NYA). His appointment marks a significant step in ensuring that independent youth voices across the country are actively represented in national youth policy and development programmes.
Mr. Ghali joins the Board as a representative of independent youth groups, with a mandate to advocate for inclusive policies that reflect the aspirations and needs of young people who operate outside traditional political and institutional structures.
During the official inauguration of the Board, the Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, Hon. George Opare Addo, urged members to provide strategic leadership and firm guidance to the Authority. He emphasized the Board’s critical role in advancing national initiatives such as the National Apprenticeship Programme (NAP)—a flagship intervention aimed at reducing youth unemployment by equipping young Ghanaians with practical, job-ready skills. The Minister also called on the Board to strengthen the institutional framework for youth development and ensure impactful delivery of youth empowerment programmes.
Mr. Ghali brings with him extensive experience in entrepreneurship, policy advocacy, and youth leadership. One of his key responsibilities will be to work with the Board to establish the Ghana Youth Federation—a national umbrella body mandated by the National Youth Authority Act, 2016 (Act 939). The Federation aims to unify youth-focused organizations across the country and amplify their collective voice in national decision-making.
Speaking on his appointment, Mr. Ghali remarked, “Representing the independent youth voice at this level of governance is both an honour and a responsibility I take seriously.
“My commitment is to ensure that youth organizations outside traditional partisan or institutional structures are fully represented in national conversations. I will advocate strongly for the formation of the Ghana Youth Federation and for the effective rollout of programmes like the NAP that will truly empower young people.”
Mr. Ghali’s appointment is widely seen as a progressive move towards building a more inclusive and representative youth development agenda in Ghana.
