NYA Partners with Shaq Express to Train 1,000 Youth in Electric Bike and Okada Services

In a groundbreaking move to empower young Ghanaians with employable skills and promote sustainable transport, the National Youth Authority (NYA) has partnered with leading courier service Shaq Express to train 1,000 young people annually in electric bike courier and Okada services.

The partnership, announced by the acting Chief Executive Officer of the NYA, Osman Ayariga is part of the authority’s broader mandate to equip the youth with practical, business-oriented skills that support self-employment and entrepreneurship.

According to Mr. Ayariga, the initiative will not only help reduce youth unemployment but will also support Ghana’s transition to cleaner energy by promoting the use of electric bikes. This is expected to reduce the country’s reliance on fossil fuels, which significantly contribute to climate change.

In a Facebook post, he stated, “we signed an MoU with SHAQEXPRESS to train 1,000 youth in various business modules centred on the electric bike each year. This will enable young people to acquire the bikes and build businesses around them”

He further noted that the programme aligns with the vision of President John Dramani Mahama to legalise and regulate the Okada industry. This approach provides a more structured and safer alternative for thousands of youth engaged in informal transportation.

The NYA also expressed its willingness to collaborate with more private companies and organisations that are committed to youth empowerment and skills development.
