President John Dramani Mahama has officially appointed prominent Ghanaian media personality and journalist, Bridget Otoo, as a Presidential Staffer at the Office of Government Communications.

The announcement, made on Friday, June 27, follows months of speculation and public debate, with many questioning the delay in her appointment considering her outspoken support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and President Mahama during the 2024 election campaign.

Bridget Otoo has earned a reputation as a bold voice in Ghana’s media space, known for her fearless approach to social and political commentary and her unwavering advocacy for national development.

Her name became a trending topic on social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter), with many Ghanaians humorously describing the delay in her appointment as a classic case of “monkey dey work, baboon dey chop.”

In response to the appointment, Bridget Otoo shared her excitement and gratitude in a Facebook post on Friday, June 27, reflecting on her journey and expressing her commitment to serve.

She recounted the anticipation she felt on January 7, 2025, awaiting President Mahama’s swearing-in, only to experience the historic moment from a hospital bed after what was supposed to be a routine medical check turned into weeks of hospitalization.

Despite the health setback, Bridget expressed deep pride in being considered for a government role once she recovered.

She described the opportunity to serve as a Presidential Staffer as a privilege she intends to approach with hard work, dedication, and integrity.

“This appointment to serve at the Seat of Government as a ‘Presidential Staffer, Government Communications’, although earned on my part through grit, dedication and hard work is still an incredible privilege that I intend to prove myself worthy of, for the duration of my service.”

Bridget thanked President Mahama, First Lady Lordina Mahama, Presidential Advisor Joyce Bawa Mogtari, Deputy Chief of Staff Stan Xoese Dogbe, Minister for Government Communications Felix Kwakye Fosu, and the NDC grassroots for their support and encouragement throughout her journey.

Before her appointment, Bridget Otoo resigned from her role as a news anchor and presenter at Metro TV in May 2025, marking the end of her three-year stint with the station.

She joined Metro TV in 2021 after previously stepping away from the spotlight in 2017 following her exit from Media General.

Bridget Otoo has pledged to work diligently and uphold the confidence placed in her. Her characteristic boldness, energy, and dedication are expected to be key assets as she contributes to the government’s communication efforts.
