Parliament has announced extended sittings beginning today, Monday, July 7, 2025, as the House races to conclude outstanding legislative work before its planned adjournment on Saturday, July 12, 2025.
Majority Leader and Chair of the Business Committee, Mahama Ayariga, made the announcement while presenting the Business Statement for the seventh week of the session.
Under the new arrangement, Parliament will convene not only on weekdays but also on Mondays and Saturdays to accelerate the consideration of key legislative items, including pending Legislative Instruments (LIs) and other critical matters.
Mr. Ayariga emphasised that the additional sitting days are necessary to avoid delays and ensure all crucial business is concluded within the limited timeframe available.
“Motions may be debated and their consequential resolutions, if any, taken during the week,” Mr Ayariga said. “In accordance with Standing Order 216(2), and subject to Standing Order 67, the Committee submits to the House the order in which business shall be taken.”
As part of the packed schedule, 55 Ministers of State are expected to appear before Parliament to respond to questions from Members, alongside the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama.
Mr. Ayariga also signalled that new bills could be introduced in the coming days. If deemed urgent, these bills may be processed through all necessary stages within a single sitting, in accordance with Standing Order 160.
