The President, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, and the government of Ghana have expressed heartfelt gratitude to the people of Ghana and the international community for their support in the aftermath of the August 6 helicopter crash that claimed eight lives.
In a statement issued by the Presidency on Monday, August 18, the government acknowledged the sympathy, condolences, and assistance extended by chiefs, clergy, Muslim clerics, civil society, the diplomatic community, political leaders, security agencies, and ordinary citizens.
According to the statement signed by Minister of Government Communications and presidential spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the outpouring of solidarity during the national mourning period and at the state funeral brought comfort to the bereaved families.
The tragic accident occurred when a military helicopter carrying senior government officials and service personnel crashed en route to Obuasi for the launch of the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP).

The victims of the helicopter crash were Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna, NDC Vice Chairman Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Deputy NADMO Director-General Samuel Aboagye, and three Air Force personnel: Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
The government further appreciated the efforts of individuals and corporate organisations who ensured that the victims were given a dignified and befitting burial.
Following the conclusion of the state funeral and burials, the Chief of Staff has directed that flags at all public institutions be restored to full mast with immediate effect.
“As we return to the duties of #ResettingGhana and building the Ghana we want, let us remain united in prayer, comfort one another, and continue to support the families affected by this tragedy,” the statement added.
The government prayed for the souls of the departed to rest in eternal peace.
