The Pre-Tertiary Teachers Association of Ghana (PRETAG) has issued a strong caution to its members, urging them to uphold professional integrity and desist from any form of examination malpractice during national assessments.
In a press release on September 9, 2025, and signed by Kingsley Anyimadu, the Communication Director of PRETAG, the association emphasized that teachers have a “sacred responsibility to uphold the integrity of the educational system” and must protect the credibility of examinations at all times.
The statement noted that over the years, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has raised concerns about the conduct of some invigilators during examinations, highlighting that recent media footage has shown the malpractice canker to be widespread.
PRETAG condemned acts such as the leaking of examination questions, tampering with examination materials, and any other conduct that undermines the professional integrity of teachers.
The association reminded members that engaging in such practices has dire consequences for their personal and professional reputations.
“Stakeholders must think outside the box, if examination malpractice is to be at the lowest ebb,” the statement read, stressing the need for collective efforts in addressing the menace.
Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding the examination system, PRETAG assured the public that it would continue to collaborate with all stakeholders to ensure the credibility of Ghana’s examinations is protected.
The association concluded by underscoring that quality education remains its ultimate concern and that upholding examination integrity is key to achieving that goal.
