Kwahu Traditional Council denies Queen Mother abduction, describes reports as false

The Kwahu Traditional Council has dismissed reports of an alleged abduction of the Paramount Queen Mother, insisting no such incident occurred and explaining that police acted on a court injunction to maintain peace at the Abene Palace.

The Kwahu Traditional Council has refuted widespread reports claiming that the Paramount Queen Mother, Nana Adwoa Gyamfuah III, has been abducted, describing the claims as entirely false and misleading.

In a press statement, the Council said the rumours were fueled by misinterpretations of a police operation carried out at the Abene Palace on the back of a court directive.

“The Kwahu Traditional Council wishes to correct misinformation circulated by media outlets alleging that Nana Adwoa Gyamfuah III, the Paramount Queen Mother of Kwahu, has been abducted. This report is entirely false,” the statement said.

According to the Council, police action at the palace followed an interlocutory injunction issued by the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs on June 24, 2025. The injunction, it said, was granted in favour of Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II.

“Following the interlocutory injunction issued on 24th June 2025 by the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs in favour of Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II, the Ghana Police Service acted pursuant to the Court Order to secure the peace,” the Council noted.

The order restrains Baffour Osei Akoto, “who has been styling himself as Kwahuhene,” along with the Queen Mother and others, from interfering with the functions and occupation of Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II at the Abene Palace.

The Council further clarified that Nana Adwoa Gyamfuah III does not live at the palace and was not among those taken into custody. It stressed that reports of an abduction were fabricated.

“We wish to state clearly that the Queen Mother does not reside at the Abene Palace, nor do any of the individuals who were arrested. Contrary to circulating rumours, no abduction has taken place.”

It also alleged that the Queen Mother had recently made attempts to take over the palace by force. “It has further come to the attention of the Council that the Queen Mother has engaged thugs in an attempt to forcibly take over the Abene Palace and has issued threats intended to disrupt the legitimate work of the substantive Kwahuhene, Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II.”

All individuals arrested during the police operation are “currently in lawful custody and are safe and in good health,” the statement added.

The Council says the court order that informed the police intervention has been attached for public reference.
