The National Chief Imam of Ghana, Shaikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, has expressed strong condemnation over a shooting incident that occurred at the Ho Central Mosque on Friday, December 26, 2025.
The violence, which erupted during a leadership dispute, has been described by the Chief Imam as a grave affront to Islamic sanctity and a threat to national security.
According to Statement from the National Chief Imam’s office on Monday, December 29, the clash stemmed from disagreements over the Volta Regional Imamship.
He reaffirmed Shaikh Ali Muniru as the legitimate Volta Regional Imam, with Shaikh Anas serving as Deputy Imam, emphasizing that the selection followed proper consultation and mediation processes.
“The shooting of Muslims by Muslims in the Central Mosque of Ho is a deviation from basic civility and a tribute to outright impunity,” the National Chief Imam said, urging followers of both leaders to remain law-abiding and peace-loving in accordance with Islamic norms.
He also appealed to the police to handle the matter impartially, warning that selective justice equates to injustice.
The Chief Imam prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured and called on the Muslim community to embrace reconciliation, citing the Quran, “The believers are brothers. So, make reconciliation between your brothers. And fear Allah, so that you may receive mercy” (Quran 49:10).
