A group calling itself the Concerned Youth of Nzema is demanding answers from the government and the Petroleum Hub Corporation over delays in the operationalisation of the Petroleum Hub project. The group is calling on authorities to provide a clear roadmap outlining the future direction and timelines of the project.
Following his assumption of office in 2025, President John Dramani Mahama appointed a new Chief Executive Officer and a Board of Directors for the Petroleum Hub Corporation, a move that renewed hope among Ghanaians, particularly residents of the host communities.
However, more than a year on, the Petroleum Hub project has yet to record any visible progress.
Speaking at a press conference at Nkroful in the Ellembelle District, President of the Concerned Youth of Nzema, Jonas Kabutey, questioned the authorities over the non-operational status of the project. He stressed that the people of Nzema are eager to see the project take off and are ready to offer their full support.
Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo cut the sod for the Petroleum Hub project in 2024. Valued at an estimated 12 billion dollars, the project is expected to position Ghana as a major petroleum and petrochemical hub in Africa and create about 780,000 direct and indirect jobs.
