Former NPP parliamentary candidate Kozie Akosua Manu has stressed that legislation alone is insufficient to advance women’s political representation, calling for stronger political commitment to turn promises into tangible results.

Speaking on GH Today with Serwaa Amihere on Friday, January 30, 2026, Akosua Manu acknowledged the passage of the Affirmative Action Bill under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) but criticized the broader political culture for failing to meet promised targets for women’s inclusion.

“She hasn’t met that quota,” she said, referring to President John Dramani Mahama’s pledge to appoint 30 percent women to his cabinet.

Akosua Manu added that while the NPP did not set a specific numerical target, the party has ensured a significant presence of women in leadership positions.

Akosua Manu also emphasized that women’s political advancement should not be confined to party lines.

“Women can collaborate even if you’re on the other side to ensure things get done,” she stated.

Highlighting the role of accountability, she argued that the Affirmative Action Bill should serve as a foundation rather than a final achievement, stressing that deliberate inclusion and follow-through are essential for meaningful progress.
