Council of State Member for the Western Region and CEO of Win Energy, Dr Maxwell Boakye, has taken a decisive step to improve pediatric healthcare in the region by initiating the construction of a 50-bed Children’s Ward at Samartex Hospital.
To demonstrate his commitment, Dr Boakye personally handed a cheque of $100,000 to the contractor to commence the project, which is valued at $300,000 in total. The gesture forms part of efforts to fast-track the facility’s development and expand specialised care for children.
During a tour of the hospital shortly after the announcement, Dr. Boakye expressed concern over the limited resources available for young patients. He noted that the facility currently operates with only one incubator, describing the situation as “worrying.”
In response, he pledged to provide an additional incubator within the coming week to strengthen neonatal care services. Moved by the conditions at the hospital, Dr. Boakye further assured management that he would cover the medical bills of some patients to ensure urgent care is not delayed.
Hospital authorities and community members hailed the initiative as timely and impactful, noting that it will significantly improve healthcare delivery in Samreboi and surrounding communities.
Once completed, the 50-bed Children’s Ward is expected to expand Samartex Hospital’s capacity and enhance specialized pediatric care across the Western Region, giving children in the area a better chance at timely and quality medical attention.
