Some major roads in Accra will be temporarily closed on Friday, March 6, 2026, as part of security and traffic arrangements for Ghana’s 69th Independence Anniversary celebration at the Jubilee House.
The Ghana Police Service announced that the closures will affect sections of Liberation Road from the Opeibea Intersection towards the Central Business District, Independence Avenue at the Ako Adjei By-pass, and Jawaharlal Nehru Road.
The affected routes are expected to reopen to traffic after the event.
In a statement, the Police said the measure is intended to ensure smooth movement of dignitaries and effective traffic management during the national celebration.
“Motorists using Liberation Road are advised to use the Kaokudi Road through the Kanda Highway to connect to Barnes Road towards the Central Business District or use Giffard Road towards Osu,” the statement said.
It added that drivers on Independence Avenue will be diverted through the Kanda Highway to Ring Road Central and continue through the 37 Intersection to their destinations.
The Police further urged motorists to plan their journeys in advance and avoid parking along the affected roads, warning that improperly parked vehicles may be towed.
“Traffic Police officers will be deployed to direct motorists to designated car parks and diversion points, while towing vehicles will be available to remove any abandoned, disabled, or wrongly parked vehicles,” the statement added.
The Service called on the public to cooperate with officers on duty to ensure smooth traffic flow throughout the celebration.
