The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has established a Public Land Protection Taskforce to curb encroachment and illegal development on public lands across the country.
Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Alhaji Yussif Sulemana, announced that the taskforce will soon be inaugurated as part of a broader set of reforms in public land administration.
The taskforce will include representatives from several state institutions including the Lands Commission, the Ghana Police Service and other security agencies.
“The Task Force comprised of representatives from the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources, the Lands Commission, the Ghana Police Service and allied security agencies,” he explained.
According to the Deputy Minister, the initiative is aimed at protecting public lands currently under review and preventing unauthorized occupation.
“The Task Force will be responsible for preventing encroachment on public lands, halting unauthorized developments, and ensuring that lands under review are protected from illegal occupation,” he said.
The taskforce will operate under the legal framework of the Lands Commission Act, the Land Act, and other applicable criminal laws relating to trespass and unlawful development.
Government says the initiative will strengthen enforcement and safeguard public land resources.
