Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has challenged road contractors across the country to deliver high-quality infrastructure capable of withstanding heavy rainfall, following recent incidents where roads were washed away by floods.
According to the minister, the recent rains have exposed the poor quality of some road projects, sparking complaints from residents in several communities affected by flooding and deteriorating road conditions.
Speaking during an inspection of the road project linking Atimpoku and Asikuma Junction, Mr. Agbodza stressed that successful road construction goes beyond the number of heavy-duty machines deployed to a site.
He noted that the expertise, experience and technical knowledge applied to projects are what ultimately determine the quality and durability of roads.
The Roads Minister, who is also the Member of Parliament for Adaklu, urged contractors to ensure that their projects are built to withstand heavy rains by constructing wider drains and adhering to high construction standards.
He further called on the contractor working on the project, which is currently more than 30 per cent complete, to collaborate with Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and Ghana Water Limited to relocate utility installations that fall within the project’s right of way.
Mr. Agbodza also appealed to residents in the project area to cooperate with the contractor to ensure the timely completion of the road, which is expected to be delivered early next year.
