The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called for the immediate review of the continued detention of Salomey Awiti Bafoh, a principal nursing officer and mother of three, who has been remanded by the Adenta Circuit Court.

In a statement on Friday, September 18, 2026, the party said it was concerned about the decision of the court, presided over by Her Ladyship Angela Attachie, to remand Bafoh for an additional two weeks.

According to the NPP, Madam Bafoh was arrested in Techiman and brought to Accra after allegedly being held incommunicado for several days.

The party said when she first appeared before the court on September 16, the prosecution reportedly alleged that she was connected to the “Ghana Jollof” social media account and was being investigated over an alleged plot to overthrow the government.

However, the NPP said the prosecution presented a different allegation the following day-abetment of the publication of false news under Sections 20(1) and 208 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

“This dramatic change in the prosecution’s case raises serious questions about the basis for her continued detention,” the party stated.

Mad. Bafoh has pleaded not guilty and remains in custody while investigations continue.

Prosecutors allege that she assisted UK-based TikTok personality Barbara Asantewaa Kodua, popularly known as “Ghana Jollof”, in disseminating videos through social media and recruited others to redistribute the content.

The prosecution has also alleged that money was transferred from Kodua in the United Kingdom to Bafoh in Ghana in connection with the activities under investigation.

“Ghana Jollof” is reportedly outside Ghana and has been listed by police as being at large.

The NPP has also questioned the territorial jurisdiction of the Adenta Circuit Court, arguing that Bafoh resides in Techiman.

“There are also legitimate questions regarding the territorial jurisdiction of the Adenta Circuit Court, given that Madam Bafoh resides in Techiman and the prosecution must demonstrate what specific act constituting the alleged abetment occurred within the jurisdiction of the Adenta Court,” the party said.

The party is demanding that Bafoh be granted reasonable bail and that the prosecution clearly establish the legal and territorial basis for the charge.

It has also called on the Chief Justice and Judicial Council to take note of concerns surrounding the handling of politically sensitive cases before the Adenta Circuit Court, while urging the government and security agencies to respect the constitutional rights of citizens.

“The NPP will continue to defend the constitutional rights and freedoms of every Ghanaian, irrespective of political affiliation. Ghana’s democracy cannot be sustained if the machinery of justice is perceived as an instrument for punishing dissent,” the party said.

Madam Bafoh is expected to reappear before the court on September 30, 2026.
