The Member of Parliament for Yendi Constituency, Alhassan Abdul Fatawu, has presented mattresses and chop boxes to 150 qualified SHS 1 students to support them as they begin their Senior High School education.
The items were presented at the Community Centre in Yendi on Saturday, September 19, 2026. Fatawu said the initiative was aimed at easing the financial burden on families during the transition from JHS to SHS.
“Today is not simply about giving out mattresses and chop boxes. It is about supporting our children at a critical stage of their educational journey,” he said.
The donation forms part of his broader education support initiatives in the constituency.
Earlier this year, more than 2,600 BECE candidates received mathematics sets, while 120 students benefited from the Nandanbiya Educational Scholarship, which provided more than GH¢120,000 last year.
The MP also highlighted education infrastructure projects, including renovations at Bunbon Primary School and the Yendi GES District Director’s Office, as well as projects at St. Vincent College of Education and the Yendi College of Health Training School.
He urged the beneficiaries to remain focused and not allow their backgrounds to limit their ambitions.
“Your background is not a limitation on what you can become,” he told the students.
Fatawu also called on parents, teachers, traditional leaders and other stakeholders to work together to promote education in the constituency.
