Private health insurance company Octaplus Health has unveiled an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered digital character, Xaida, as part of efforts to integrate technology into its operations and improve customer engagement.
Xaida, a teenage digital character, will feature in the company’s digital communications as Octaplus Health seeks to make health insurance more accessible and easier to understand, particularly for younger and digitally connected audiences.
The technology was unveiled in Accra last Friday at a ceremony held under the theme, “Innovation and the Future of Healthcare.”
The event brought together representatives of Octaplus Health, insurance brokers, human resource managers from companies enrolled in the company’s health insurance schemes, and other stakeholders.
Speaking at the event, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Octaplus Health, Dr Dan Vincent Armooh, said the integration of AI had already helped the company make some processes faster and more efficient.
He said the development of Xaida formed part of the company’s broader strategy to leverage technology to improve how it communicates and interacts with customers.

According to Dr Armooh, Xaida would primarily be used for the company’s communication and digital content generation as Octaplus Health expands its use of technology in delivering health insurance services.
He stressed that the company’s adoption of technology was ultimately intended to improve how people accessed and experienced healthcare rather than make health insurance more complicated.
“Technology should not make healthcare and health insurance feel more complicated. Instead, it should help make the experience more convenient, transparent and accessible,” he said.
Dr Armooh explained that Xaida would serve as a digital interface for communicating with members and engaging younger audiences.
He added that the company’s digital platforms and technology-enabled processes would continue to support interactions with members, corporate clients and healthcare providers.
The Acting Board Chairman of Octaplus Health also highlighted the company’s focus on speed, transparency and delivering a superior customer experience.
He said the adoption of AI formed part of efforts to improve the speed and transparency of the company’s services while enhancing the overall experience of its customers.
The National President of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (CIMG), Michael Abbiw, described Xaida as an innovative creation.
He expressed interest in seeing how the digital character would develop and evolve as Octaplus Health continues to integrate technology into its operations.
