The Ghana Police Service is investigating the death of a 33-year-old man who allegedly died after being stabbed in the chest with a piece of broken glass by his 19-year-old girlfriend during a disagreement at Ofankor Barrier in Accra.

The deceased, identified as Enoch Abrokwa, died on October 14, 2026, while receiving treatment at the Ridge Hospital, according to a statement issued by the Accra Regional Police Command on Wednesday, October 21.

The police said preliminary investigations indicated that the incident occurred on Friday, October 9, at Abrokwa’s business premises, where a disagreement between him and his girlfriend allegedly escalated into a confrontation.

“The confrontation allegedly escalated, resulting in the accused person stabbing the deceased in the chest with a piece of broken glass,” the statement said.

The suspect, identified as Emmanuella Asante, allegedly inflicted a deep wound on Abrokwa, who was subsequently rushed to a hospital at Taifa-Burkina for medical attention.

He was later referred to the Ridge Hospital, where he underwent surgery for a deep wound that affected his intestines.

“He, however, died on 14th October 2026 while receiving treatment,” the police statement said.

The police said Asante was arrested on October 10, a day after the alleged incident, and brought to the police by the complainant and three other people.

The statement indicated that the suspect reportedly admitted to stabbing Abrokwa and remains in police custody as investigations continue.

“The accused person was arrested on 10th October 2026 and brought to the Police by the complainant and three others,” the statement said.

It added that she had reportedly admitted to the act and remained in custody while investigators pursued the case.

Asante has been put before the court and remanded into police custody. She is expected to reappear on November 3, 2026.

The Tesano Divisional Police Command is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Following the incident, the Accra Regional Police Command has called on the public to avoid violence when resolving disagreements.

“The Accra Regional Police Command urges the public to resolve disagreements peacefully and refrain from violence,” the statement said.

The command also urged members of the public to cooperate with investigators as they work to establish the circumstances surrounding the death and take appropriate action under the law.

“The public is also encouraged to cooperate with the Police as investigations continue and appropriate action is taken in accordance with the law,” the statement added.
