Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has threatened to publicly name and shame any person who attempts to obstruct the passage of the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, 2025, popularly known as the anti-LGBTQ+ Bill.
He said he remained committed to ensuring that Parliament revisits the Bill and completes the necessary legislative processes to secure its passage during the current meeting.
Speaking at the resumption of sitting for the First Sitting of the Third Meeting of the Second Session of the Ninth Parliament on Tuesday, November 3, Mr Bagbin said he would not hesitate to identify anyone who interferes with the process.
“I will assure you that I will mention names, names of any person who tries to obstruct the legitimate processes to see this Bill through. That I leave to your constituents,” he told MPs.
The Speaker said he intended to ensure that the House proceeded with a motion to rescind its earlier decision at the third reading of the Bill, paving the way for a second consideration.
He described the proposed legislation as one that had attracted considerable public attention because of its cultural, constitutional, legal and social implications.
Mr Bagbin said he was committed to working within the applicable rules and procedures of Parliament to conclude the Bill’s processing and secure its passage during the meeting.
The Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, 2025, has remained a subject of public debate, attracting strong views from supporters and opponents over its provisions and potential implications.
