Former deputy Education Minister, Samuel Okudjeto, was in near fisticuffs with deputy Trades Minister Carlos Ahenkora today in Parliament after the latter crashed into the former’s interview on the expat’s extortion brouhaha.
In the middle of the interview with Starr News’ Parliamentary Correspondent, Ibrahim Alhassan, Mr. Ahenkora budged in taunting the North Tongu lawmaker describing him as pathological liar.
The Minority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for Asawase Muntaka Mubarak last week exposed the scandal during parliamentary proceedings.
Narrating the incident to Starrfmonline.com from parliament, Ibrahim stated that Mr. Ahenkora had to be restrained by his colleagues while Mr. Ablakwa was whisked away by the Member of Parliament for Tamale North Alhassan Suhuyini to avoid a full blown melee.
Providing document signed by Mr. Ahenkora to back his expose’, he noted that expatriates working in the country were charged $100,000 to sit on the same table with President Akufo-Addo at the just held Ghana Business Expatriates awards on December 8 at the Movenpick Hotel in Accra.
The Trade Ministry had since distanced itself from the scandal.
That notwithstanding, the Minority threatened to haul the Trade Minister Alan Kyeremanten before the house to face sanctions unless his ministry refunds monies collected from expatriate business owners to gain access to the President.
Speaking in an earlier interview on Starr Today Monday December 18, Mr Ablakwa who is the Minority Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs said the trade Minister is likely to be hauled to parliament over the embarrassing spectacle.
“He has breached the fees and charges act and there are clear sanctions to be leveled against the officers involved and if the funds are not refunded we will use parliamentary proceedings to haul the Minister and trigger the sanctions regime,” he told Starr Today’s Atiewin Mbilla-Lawson.
