Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Nyarko Ampem has revealed that a company cited in the Auditor-General’s special report has refunded GH¢19.1 million to the state following the findings.
The company, Rans Logistics, was implicated in a scandal involving missing grains and alleged overpayments, with thousands of tonnes of rice and maize reportedly unaccounted for.
Speaking before the Public Accounts Committee, Mr. Nyarko Ampem said the refund was made within a week after the report was published, and added that efforts are ongoing to recover about 7,000 tonnes of grains linked to the case.
He further noted that the Attorney-General’s Department will soon provide recommendations on the infractions highlighted in the audit report as part of ongoing accountability measures.
“On March 10, I presented the findings of the audit to Parliament. Exactly a week later, on March 17, one of the companies identified—Rans Logistics—has gone ahead to refund GH₵19.1 million to the state,” he said.
He added, “We are expecting the value of these 7000 metric tonnes of rice to be reimbursed as well. The Attorney General is working with his team to recommend the right course of action for all identified infractions.”
The development forms part of broader efforts by authorities to recover state funds and address financial irregularities identified in public audits.
