The Electoral Commission (EC) has assured the public that the collation of parliamentary results for Ablekuma North will be completed, despite the sudden resignation of Returning Officer Vincent Obeng.
Obeng cited frustrations with the collation process, revealing that results from four out of seven polling stations had been successfully collated, but challenges arose with the remaining three due to presiding officers’ failure to authenticate key election documents.
Addressing the Media, the EC expressed its commitment to resolving tensions at Ablekuma North and has even hinted at reinstating Obeng to finalize the collation process.
“It’s not the end of the road; we will get him back to finish the job,” Dr. Quaicoe stated.
The collation process has been marred by disputes over pink sheets and scuffles at the collation centre, requiring police intervention to restore calm.
The EC has reiterated its neutrality in the electoral process, emphasizing that it is the voters who ultimately determine their leaders.
Despite the challenges, the commission is determined to ensure a transparent and fair process.
Obeng’s resignation has sparked concerns, but the EC’s assurance has helped to alleviate some of the tensions surrounding the Ablekuma North collation process.
