Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North, Sheila Bartels has thrown her full support behind the decision by the “Operation Recover All Loots” team to forgo allowances in the execution of their duties.
The ORAL team, chaired by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, held its first meeting on Wednesday and resolved to work without financial benefits.
In a post following the meeting, Ablakwa shared the team’s decision on Facebook: “The ORAL Team held its first meeting at 2 pm today and resolved to work gratis. None of our activities will come at a cost to the taxpayer. We continue to count on your support; let’s do this for God and Country.”
Reacting to this, Sheila Bartels expressed her admiration and called for similar measures across all branches of government.
“I’m impressed! Let’s lead Ghana without expecting allowances, fuel, cars, or other perks. Let’s cancel everything from the Presidency, Executive, Parliament, and Judiciary except salaries. Ghanaians deserve that freedom. For God and Country, it will work! I support you 100%,” she wrote on her Facebook page.
Her remarks have drawn mixed reactions from the public. While some praised her for supporting the ORAL team’s initiative, others questioned her motives and sincerity.
One follower, Hon. Berkoh-Sakordie Isaac, asked, “Is she another disappointed NPP candidate trying to support ORAL, or is she ridiculing the fact that there will be no salaries, allowances, or fuel coupons attached to this operation?”
Another critic, Victor Akanbonga, commented, “But you benefited a lot from that, and now that you won’t return to Parliament, you are advocating for cancellation.”
