Security consultant Paul Boateng has dismissed the arrest of two individuals in connection with the recent violence during the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun, stating that arrests alone do not indicate progress unless followed by prosecution.
His comments come after the Accra Regional Police Command announced the arrest of Musah Muntari, a 46-year-old Station Manager with STC, and Ali Saeed, also known as Mboma, a 43-year-old businessman.
The arrests were made in connection with violent disturbances that disrupted the parliamentary rerun held on Friday, July 11, 2025.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, July 23, the police confirmed the suspects are in custody and assisting with investigations.
Speaking on Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey, Mr. Boateng questioned the impact of the arrests.
“I don’t see this as progress, I don’t see it as anything because we’ve seen this over and over again. We saw those who raided the Regional Liaison office in Kumasi during Akufo-Addo’s time. What happened to them? Arrest is different, prosecution is also different.”
“Until these guys are brought book with regard to sending hem to court, pronounce the judgement sentence to them. So without that, I don’t see this as anything that we can say there is progress,” he added, doubting whether only two people were behind the attack on Hawa Koomson.
He stressed the need for the state to demonstrate seriousness by ensuring due process is followed and perpetrators are punished, regardless of political affiliation.
The rerun was necessitated by unresolved voter verification issues during the December 2024 general elections, which left the Ablekuma North constituency without a representative in Parliament.
However, the rerun turned chaotic, with reports of violence involving suspected political thugs who allegedly assaulted New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP Hawa Koomson and others, including journalists.
