Accept dumsor is back and give us load shedding timetable – Mahama told

A member of the Legal team of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Kwame Owiredu has called on the President, John Dramani Mahama, to be “realistic” with Ghanaians and officially admit the return of “Dumsor” as the current outages are “dispersed” and beyond simple maintenance.

Speaking on GHOne TV’s morning show, GhToday on Monday, 20th April, 2026, the Lawyer said this admission will enable Ghanaians to adequately plan well on their power consumption for their own interest.

“What is happening is so much dispersed that it cannot be maintenance. It is dumsor…so the President should be realistic with us…it is synomous with President Mahama…it is better to let us know about the situation so that at least we will know that we are in this era of dumsor because at least he’s taken us through it. They should give us timetable…,” he said.

The President while inspecting new 2,500 transformers acquired for Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) to replace ageing units nationwide dispelled rumours that dumsor has returned.

“The outages you are facing are not dumsor…it is to enable you to get better quality and stable power,” he said.

Owiredu added that he could not fathom why the President who is burdened with executive responsibilities has also taken on the additional responsibility of communicating for the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and (NEDCo).

“As for the President, he is a fine man but he is already burdened with a lot of responsibilities. The promises to the young people are not coming through so with all these responsibilities, he should not add the extra job of the PRO of ECG or NEDCo. This is with utmost respect to him. Mr. President, you are so much burdened with a lot of responsibilities…and so we will ask that you will concentrate in vital matters, and leave the PR to the PRO of ECG and NEDCo…,” he said.

The Lawyer further urged Ghanaians to brace themselves for more hardship under the NDC insisting that the ruling party poccess the unenviable record of always performing abysmally when in government.

“We know them; they’ve been here before and they will go back to where they belong,” Bediako stated.

“They do well in opposition but don’t perform in government. You see what is happening right now—the 24-hour economy is not working,” he said.
