The Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) PLC has commenced 24-hour banking operations at the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) in Tema, in support of the government’s 24-hour economy initiative.
The new service, which began on July 1, 2025, is designed to facilitate round-the-clock payment of GPHA handling charges by importers, exporters, freight forwarders, customs clearing agents, and other logistics stakeholders.
Managing Director of ADB, Edward Ato Sarpong, described the initiative as a strategic response to the growing demand for flexible financial services within the port and logistics sector.
“The 24-hour economy is not just about working round the clock but about creating added value and decent jobs towards higher productivity,” Mr. Sarpong stated.
He explained that ADB’s extended service hours would significantly improve operational efficiency by allowing port users to perform critical financial transactions at any time of the day or night.
“By providing 24-hour banking service, ADB is ensuring port stakeholders have convenient access to perform financial transactions needed to keep their operations moving efficiently,” he added.
The Bank’s 24-hour service at Tema Port aligns with its new tagline “Beyond Banking…”, which reflects its focus on customer-centric, innovative solutions across sectors.
Mr. Sarpong revealed that ADB plans to expand the 24-hour service model to other payment collection points nationwide to further stimulate economic activity and support the broader 24-hour economy programme.
He urged customers and the business community to take advantage of the new service to enhance their operations and reduce delays associated with port transactions.
