Former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo has reversed her earlier decision to seek opportunities outside the constituency and announced plans to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary primaries.
Mrs. Safo made the announcement in a statement dated Thursday, October 22, 2026, saying her decision followed reflection and consultations with party leaders and stakeholders.
“Earlier, I had indicated my intention to pursue opportunities beyond the constituency. However, upon deeper reflection, I have come to appreciate, that there is no greater honour or responsibility than serving and representing the interests and aspirations of the over two hundred thousand constituents of our beloved constituency in parliament,” she said.
The former MP said she remained convinced that she had more to contribute to the development of Dome-Kwabenya and the advancement of residents’ aspirations.
“My decision to return to contest, is informed by my enduring commitment to the people of Dome-Kwabenya and my conviction that there remains much, to contribute to the development of our constituency and the advancement of our shared aspirations,” she stated.
Mrs. Safo said she would present herself for consideration as the NPP’s parliamentary candidate when the party announces the timetable and guidelines for the primaries.
Her announcement sets the stage for a potential return to the party’s internal contest for the constituency, which she represented in Parliament for 12 years.
Mrs. Safo entered Parliament after winning the Dome-Kwabenya seat in the 2012 general election. She went on to retain the seat in the 2016 and 2020 elections.
Beyond her work as an MP, she served in government as Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection and later as Minister of State in charge of Public Procurement.
Her political career has, however, also faced challenges, including controversy surrounding her prolonged absence from Parliament in 2022.
In her latest statement, she highlighted the constituency’s development needs and said she remained committed to building on the progress made during her years in office.
“While much remains to be done, I remain committed to building on the progress we made together and work tirelessly towards a better future for Dome-Kwabenya,” she said.
Mrs. Safo also called on party members, stakeholders and constituents to engage in discussions about the constituency’s future with openness and mutual respect.
She attributed the NPP’s electoral performance in Dome-Kwabenya to the collective efforts of party members and supporters, citing vote totals of 63,373 in 2012, 65,488 in 2016 and 75,041 in 2020.
She reaffirmed her commitment to the constituency and expressing confidence in the role unity could play in its next phase of growth and development.
