The Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery, has stated that members of the various vigilante groups associated with the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) can apply for a national security job provided they are qualified.
Mr. Dery’s comments give credence to revelation by the MP for Assin Central Ken Agyapong that members of the groups will be enrolled in the National Security.
Speaking to Starr News’ Parliamentary correspondent, Ibrahim Alhassan Tuesday in an exclusive interview, Mr Dery said: “The National Security is a national institution, the Police service is national, the Fire service is national [and] when it is time for recruitment it is going to be published and opened to each and every Ghanaian. And if you apply and you are qualified and you go through the process you’ll be admitted.”
Earlier, Mr Agyapong hinted of plans by him to ensure members of the vigilante groups linked with the governing NPP are enrolled into the National Security setup.
He said the vigilante groups are recognized in the NPP and that he will “personally make sure they are recruited into national security,” adding that “If it is work that they need, we will gladly employ them to continue working for Ghana. Any of the Invisible Forces and Delta Forces who have no work should come to me today, we will give them work.”
One of the groups, Delta Force, has come under public scrutiny following their latest attack on the Ashanti regional security coordinator. Before then, a sister group, the Invisible Forces, had been blamed for many atrocities on innocent citizens since the party won the 2016 elections. The groups are believed to have rendered private security services to the NPP while they were in opposition.
Many Ghanaians, including the Christian Council of Ghana, have called for the disbandment of the groups, but the party has often justified their existence.
