Ghana will face Nigeria in the final of the women’s football competition at the ongoing African Games after a 3-1 win over Senegal on Monday, 18 March.
Nigeria secured their spot in the competition’s final after a 2-0 victory over Uganda earlier in the day.
Nigeria won the game at Cape Coast Sports Stadium, dominating the majority of the match and securing a crucial victory earlier in the day.
The Black Princesses then took their turn as they came up against Senegal, having faced en route to book a place in the upcoming U-20 Women’s World Cup. Ghana claimed a 3-1 win to also book a final ticket.
Tracey Twum scored her second goal of the tournament, giving Ghana the lead after just 18 minutes of play.
Ophelia Serwaa Amponsah scored a goal in the second half, doubling the lead after a swift counterattack, beating the Senegalese goalkeeper.
The Teranga Lionesses secured a crucial goal in the second half by scoring from the penalty box.
The two-goal lead was restored shortly for Yusif Basigi’s side with Amponsah scoring from a rebound to record a brace in the game.
Ghana advances to the final, aiming for the gold medal against Nigeria, who they defeated in the WAFU B U-20 Girls Cup final last year in Kumasi.
The final is scheduled for Thursday, March 21, at the Cape Coast Stadium.
