Voting in the Akwatia by-election is underway at the Beauty of Nature Polling Station in Boadua, where the Electoral Commission had to relocate the station from its original site near an uncompleted building.
The landlord of the old site reportedly withdrew permission last year, forcing the EC to shift the polling station to a nearby location. The decision initially sparked some disagreements, but the police, after investigations, approved the new venue.
A total of 539 registered voters are expected to cast their ballots here. Electoral materials include a tactile jacket to enable visually impaired voters to exercise their franchise.
Presiding Officer Matilda Anakwah told Starr News and GHone TV that all is set for a smooth process. Voting officially began at 7:19 a.m.
Security remains tight, with not less than 10 police officers, including personnel wearing body cameras and others linked directly to the control center, stationed at the polling center.
Meanwhile, the NPP parliamentary candidate, Solomon Kwame Asumadu, arrived in the company of the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the NPP General Secretary, and Sammy Awuku.
They expressed satisfaction with the process so far.
The Deputy Majority Chief Whip, Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe-Ghansah, has also been at the polling station to observe proceedings.
