Presidential Candidate of the Movement for Change, Alan Kyerematen has hit out at former President John Agyekum Kufuor over his decision to endorse the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flag bearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the general election next month.
Mr. Kufuor who was speaking with some journalists in an interview aired over the weekend offered a full-throated endorsement of Vice-President Bawumia, urging Ghanaians to elect him as the 6th President of the 4th Republic.
The former President said the election of the NPP presidential candidate will “elevate the country to the next level” and guarantee a “safe future for Ghana”.
However, Mr. Kyerematen who defected from the ruling party to organize his own political movement to contest in this year’s election said former President Kufuor in whose government he served, would have been better off if he hadn’t endorsed Dr. Bawumia.
“What he [Mr. Kufuor] has done has created a big blot on his political career,” Mr. Kyerematen said in an interview on Oyerepa TV. “Just take a look at the backlash generated against him following the endorsement. Look at the insults hurled at him. For someone who has had a distinguished career in politics, why would you sully yourself in a manner that calls for insults?”
He urged his former boss not to get involved in the race in order that the respect he had commanded in his political life spanning decades could be sustained.
