A Political Scientist, Dr. Richard Amoako Baah, has called for a thorough restructuring of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) National Executive Council (NEC) in the wake of the party’s resounding defeat in the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun.
It follows the massive victory of the National Democratic Congress’ Ewurabena Aubynn in the parliamentary rerun. She wrestled the seat from the NPP in a tightly contested race.
Speaking to Starr News, Dr. Amoako Baah described the last as a clear indication of deep-rooted strategic and organizational failures within the party.
“I believe a lot needs to change within the party—especially the NEC and other leadership structures. The party, as it currently functions, must be completely reformed. When we go to the polls and suffer such a colossal failure, it’s only right that almost everyone is held accountable and replaced. Everything happening in the party right now is a disgrace—not just to the party itself, but to the country as a whole. We’re being laughed at. We look like a group of jokers.
And to make matters worse, there’s no provision for amending the constitution. That in itself is unacceptable.”
