Amoako Community CHPS compound set for major upgrade as government prioritises healthcare

Government moves to improve healthcare delivery in Amoako with a new CHPS Compound and nurses’ accommodation.

The Amoako Community in the Buem Municipality is set to benefit from a major healthcare upgrade as government intensifies efforts to improve access to quality health services in rural areas.

Currently, health nurses posted to the Amoako community are forced to trek long distances from Nsuta and surrounding communities to report for duty. This situation has made it extremely difficult to respond promptly to emergency cases, especially due to the lack of reliable transportation and poor road conditions.

Speaking on the challenge, the spokesperson for the community chiefs for the area emphasized that the absence of motor vehicles and motorbikes for emergency response continues to hinder the work of health professionals. He stressed that improving road networks and providing suitable means of transport would not only make their work easier but also motivate health workers posted to the community to stay and serve.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Parke- Davis Magyigbe, also addressed the issue and appealed to residents to cooperate fully with contractors working on the road projects in the area.

According to him, such cooperation will ensure smooth and early completion of the roads, ultimately improving access to healthcare and other essential services.

As part of the government’s intervention, a new CHPS Compound project is underway at Amoako. The project includes:

  • A 4-bedroom self-contained nurses’ accommodation with bath, kitchen, and bedroom
  • A maternity ward
  • Out-Patient Department (OPD)
  • Consultation room
  • Washroom facilities

The project is expected to be completed within six months.

Member of Parliament for Buem and Minister for sports, Kofi Adams, highlighted the importance of healthcare delivery, noting that health remains a top priority for the government. He revealed that Amoako is currently the only community in the Buem area to benefit from the 4-bedroom self-contained nurses’ accommodation, a move aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery in the area.

He further assured residents that road construction and proper drainage systems will be provided to ensure that, rain or shine, the community remains accessible for daily activities. This, he said, aligns with President John Dramani Mahama’s “Reset” agenda, which focuses on rebuilding and improving critical sectors such as health and infrastructure.

According to Kofi Adams, a conducive healthcare environment is essential for development, and plans are underway for additional health facilities to be constructed in nearby communities under the NDC government, further boosting healthcare access across the municipality.

With these developments, residents of Amoako Community are hopeful that quality healthcare delivery and improved living conditions will soon become a reality.
