School authorities at St. Martins Senior High School in Nsawam in the Eastern region have revealed that students who collapsed on Sunday and Monday were as a result of Malaria and Anaemia.
Assistant Headmaster in charge of Academics, J.A.K Okpantey told Starr News that the doctor’s report suggest that three of the students were suffering from anaemia while the others had malaria.
According to him, 14 out of the 17 students rushed to the hospital have been treated and discharged but three are still on admission at the Nsawam Government Hospital and a Private Clinic.
“The Doctor told us it is a mere malaria, those three cases they talk of anaemia. Three of them are still at the hospital two of them at the government hospital then another case in a private hospital.”
He explained further that, “It started yesterday in the evening around Prep time, three of our girls were not feeling fine so their dormitory members informed us so we sent them to the hospital by 8pm. We had another 4 cases making 7, one was admitted yesterday but the rest were treated and discharged.
“This morning too we had another case, about 10 of them and they were also treated and discharged but three of them diagnosed of anaemia are at the hospital as we speak.”
The Assistant Headmaster has assured parents who were panicking and rushing to the School to remain calm because the situation is under control.
The victims mostly form one female students collapsed Sunday evening and Monday morning creating fear and panic in the school.
St Martins Senior High School is faced with infrastructural challenges leading to congestion at the dormitories.
The School does not have convenient toilet facilities but a 10 -seater toilet facilitty under construction has stalled.
