Political Analyst, Dr. Asante-Otchere, has commended the decision of Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin to permit embattled Kpandai Member of Parliament, Matthew Nyindam to continue participating in parliamentary proceedings.
The decision follows Parliament’s move to clear Mr. Nyindam to continue participating in House proceedings, bringing to an end the heated confrontations among lawmakers over his status.
According to Speaker Alban Bagbin, the judgment of the High Court in Tamale was delivered on November 24, and as such, the statutory seven-day stay of execution remains in force.
Speaking to Starr News, Dr. Asante-Otchere stated that the ruling is consistent with due process and the Standing Orders of the House.
“When it comes to wisdom, the Speaker is par excellence, and I am glad he has taken this particular decision. It should serve as a lesson for the Minority Leader, especially on the need to demonstrate the level of emotional maturity expected of him, something that has not always been evident.
To reiterate, I have absolute confidence in the wisdom of the Speaker and believe his ruling on this matter is fair. It also clearly reinforces the point that he is not under the control of the Executive. This is something the Minority must take careful note of.
We are dealing with a Speaker who consistently prioritizes the independence of the legislature; a principle that has always been central to his leadership and one he continues to defend.”
