Even before government could bring finality to the brouhaha surrounding the Achimota Forest and demand from the Owoo, another family has risen with a similar demand for return of lands housing the Animal Research Institute at Adenta.
The Nunmo Nmashie family says the state did not pay compensation after compulsorily acquiring the land for the purposes of research.
The said land is the one referred to in the viral video of outspoken Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong in which he claimed the board chairman for the Lands Commission Stephen Ntim took money to offer him one.
Speaking on the Morning Starr with Francis Abban Nii Gbee Owonli-Apenkwa Mantse Adjetey Obour Bour II said the land is being sold by faceless individuals without recourse to the original owners.
“Government has not compensated the family but I speak to you the land is being shared like bread. They are just sharing it. We have appealed to several people but nobody is responding to us.
“They took several acres from the family but the research institute is occupying just a small place and we want our land back. We don’t want compensation because will say they don’t have money so they should just give us the land,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Office of the Special Prosecutor says it has commenced investigations into a suspected case of corruption offences against the late Forestry Commission Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie on his supposed acquired State Land at the Achimota Forest.
The former New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary also known as Sir John as part of his will to his family members mentioned five acres of the Achimota land as his own and willed to the family.
However, the Lands and Forestry Minister, Samuel Abu Jinapor in a statement dated 24TH May, 2022 disclosed that the said lands will not be given to Sir John’s family.
