Management of the Judicial Service led by Chief Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo is seeking the cooperation of all staff as Anti LGBTQ+ Protest March dubbed ‘Family Values March by a pressure group – Arise Ghana hits the judiciary.
The group is hitting the streets in protest of the delays in dealing with pending cases at the Supreme Court, a development the service has clarified was due to the parties involved failure to file their necessary processes.
In a circular issued on Monday, October 7, 2024, signed by the Judicial Secretary, Justice Cyra Pamela CA Koranteng, a Justice of the Court of Appeal said, “there will be security deployments.”
According to the Circular, the Pressure Group will be presenting a petition to the Chief Justice, on Tuesday, October 8.
“Respectfully, we write to inform you of an impending Anti LGBTQ+ Protest March dubbed ‘Family Values March’ by a pressure group called Arise Ghana, to present a petition to the Hon. Lady Chief Justice on Tuesday, 8th October, 2024.
“In view of the above, Management wishes to bring to your attention, that there will be security deployment and hence, would need the full cooperation of all staff whose offices and courts are located at the Head Office, within the Supreme Court Premises and Accra-Central.
“Heads of Departments/Units and Registries are to bring this circular to the attention of their staff within the stated locations for compliance,” the Circular chanced on by Starrfm.com.gh stated.
On Monday, the Service in a Press Conference, assured that the Supreme Court is ready to expedite hearings on all the anti-gay cases before it should the parties file their respective processes.
According to the service, neither the Plaintiffs- Richard Dela Sky (Broadcaster) and Dr Amanda Odoi (Researcher) on one hand and the defendants – Speaker of Parliament and the Attorney General have filed their processes including a joint-memorandum of issues for trial to start.
